Some media members lament the pre-season and early rankings saying we shouldn’t have college football polls until several weeks into the season. But what fun is that? They are missing the point that ratings during the year don’t really matter much but are fun to talk about. Each week Big Jeff will give his take on the Top 10 teams in college football to represent my weekly Power Rankings. I will note any major differences between my rankings and both the AP and Coaches polls. Let’s get the Week 2 College Football Power Rankings.
Week 2 College Football Power Rankings (Top 10)

Of particular note of course is the SEC with 6 teams listed, the Big Ten with 3 and then Miami as the sole ACC representative.
Texas moved up to No. 2, bumping Ohio State down to No. 3 in both polls. After winning easily on the road at Michigan that move only makes sense to me as well. After two games, Tennessee looks spectacular on both sides of the ball, and I have them at No. 4 along with Ole Miss at No. 5 and view those five teams as major challengers to win the National Title.
I also have Miami higher than both polls at No. 7 (No. 10 AP, No. 12 Coaches) and then I also have USC at No. 9 vs. their ranking of No. 11 in both polls. I need to see more from these two teams, along with Alabama though, before putting them in the same category as Georgia, Texas, Ohio State, Tennessee and Ole Miss.
Finally, I have Oregon sliding out of the Top 10 unlike the polls (No. 9 AP, No. 6 Coaches) who kept them in the Top 10 since their struggles on the offensive line are alarming. But they still have time to address that issue.
