With the new 12 team playoff, each week Big Jeff will give my take on the Top 12 teams for my weekly college football power rankings. I will note any major differences between my rankings and both the AP and Coaches polls. Let’s get to it.
Week 3 College Football Power Rankings (Top 12)
- Texas (SEC)
- Georgia (SEC)
- Ohio State (Big 10)
- Tennessee (SEC)
- Alabama (SEC)
- Ole Miss (SEC)
- Miami (ACC)
- Missouri (SEC)
- USC (Big 10)
- Oregon (Big 10)
- Penn State (Big 10)
- Utah (Big 12)
Georgia struggled at Kentucky winning just 13-12. We have seen this before from the Dawgs so while it doesn’t mean Georgia isn’t a great team, but it also isn’t meaningless like some are saying (that would be you David Hale at ESPN). The Bulldogs offensive line is not playing great, and their running backs and receivers raise questions on if they can score enough when they play more explosive teams like Tennessee or Ole Miss.
Speaking of Tennessee. Like last week, I have Tennessee at #4 ranked much higher than the AP Poll (#6) and Coaches Poll (#7). The Vols looked great on offense and defense. I also have Miami higher than Missouri, unlike in both polls and then Miami as my #7 ranked team vs. them being ranked #11 in the coaches poll.
Finally, I have USC #9 while the AP has them at #11 and coaches’ poll at #12. We will find out if my ranking is justified when the Trojans visit Michigan this Saturday.
